Most teams spend hundreds of dollars every month on backlink tools. Ahrefs. Semrush. Majestic. But the data you need to fix weak pages? It’s already free inside Google Search Console. Most websites don’t have a backlink problem. They have a visibility problem hiding in plain sight. Your weak pages are already telling you what’s wrong. You’re just not looking inside Google Search Console. The GSC Links report shows you exactly where you stand and where to act Here’s how I use it at Tanot Solutions to fix weak pages and strengthen backlink profiles for our clients. First, understand what the Links report gives you: • Top linked pages • Top linking sites • Top linking text • Top internally linked pages This tells you who links to you, how they link, and which pages get attention. [1] Step 1. Identify weak but valuable pages. - Export GSC link data. - Find pages with 0 to 3 backlinks. - Look for service pages, money pages, cornerstone content with low link counts. - Cross check with Google Analytics to find pages with traffic but weak backlinks. - Use Top Internally Linked Pages to spot orphaned or under linked content. [2] Step 2. Fix with strategic internal linking. - Link from strong pages to weak ones. - Add contextual links inside related content clusters. - Use descriptive anchor text naturally. - Add links in navigation, footer, or sidebar if needed. - Aim for 3 to 5 internal links per weak page. [3] Step 3. Consolidate underperforming content. - Merge similar weak pages into one strong resource. - Use 301 redirects. - Make sure key points move to the updated page. - This passes link equity and removes competing pages. [4] Step 4. Build targeted backlinks. - Run backlink gap analysis. - Do outreach for weak but high value pages. - Create linkable assets like data studies or tools. - Focus on niche relevant sites over high DR alone. Before building links, optimize the page. Improve content depth. Add multimedia. Fix on page SEO and technical issues. Watch red flags: • 100 plus internal links but 0 external links • High bounce rate and few backlinks • Spammy anchor text • Competing pages splitting backlinks GSC Links data shows where you are. These strategic action shows how you grow. If you want me to audit your backlink profile and fix weak pages properly, DM me to work together.

11 Proven Ways to Build High Quality Backlinks (to rank on Google & ChatGPT): 1. Guest Post on Authority Sites → Not just blogs...go for newsletters and industry publications → Think: niche newsletters, Substack guest editions, local biz sites 2. HARO + Featured Mentions → Still works, but now also try: Terkel, Qwoted, Help a B2B Writer → Faster and often more responsive than HARO 3. Partner Collaboration Pages → Add a “Partners” page and ask vendors, clients, and tools to do the same → You link to them, they link to you 4. Resource Pages & “Best Tools” Lists → Search: intitle:resources + [your industry] → Pitch your brand/tool/blog as an addition 5. Launch a Public SOP Library → Create step-by-step SOPs in your niche → People love linking to process docs + free templates → Bonus: Update monthly, turn it into a backlink magnet 6. Create an Industry Data Report → Run a survey, publish the data, design a PDF → Add original charts + insights → Outreach to bloggers who cover your space 7. Build a Free Tool (Even a Simple One) → ROI calculator, audit checklist, SEO grader, etc. → Tools get 10x more backlinks than blogs...if they’re useful 8. Interview Your Customers or Influencers → Turn interviews into long-form blog posts → The person you feature will often link back to it → Works great for consultants, coaches, service businesses 9. Turn Your Blog into a Book (Then Launch It) → Turn 5-10 pillar posts into an ebook → Publish on Gumroad or Amazon → Promote with a “Free Resources” campaign...backlinks follow 10. Sponsor a Niche Newsletter or Creator → Pick ones with solid SEO sites (Substack, Ghost, Medium) → Your brand gets a mention + backlink in the archive 11. Create an “Ultimate Linkable Asset” → Think: “100+ stats for [industry]”, “Complete guide to [X]”, “Tool comparisons” → Make it better than anything on Page 1 → Promote it once a month on social + through outreach --- Link building should start before outreach. If it’s not worth linking to, no one will. Most SEOs avoid doing hard work → that’s your edge. Give people value + reasons to reference you. Create once, promote monthly, stack links over time. --- Whatcha think? Agree or disagree? Repost ♻️ and let's start a discussion around backlinks. P.S. I'm Connor Gillivan. Stop building links to your money pages directly unless you have to. Seriously!!! Build links to supporting content → funnel equity through internal links → to your money page. Why? - Supporting content can handle more aggressive anchors without triggering anti-spam - Internal links pass equity without footprint risk - You can control the anchor text distribution internally with zero consequence - If a linked page gets hit, your money page is insulated This is how every serious SEO agency operates and nobody teaches it because it doesn't sound as sexy as "we built 50 DR70+ links to your homepage." The headline sounds worse, the results are 10x better!

Internal linking costs $0.. And yet, you're not doing it enough. Here's my complete guide to internal linking that we use for clients. 👇 — #1. Why internal linking matters: Internal links do way more than you think: - Distribute link equity across your entire site - Establish clear topic clusters that signal authority - Help Google understand your content hierarchy - Keep visitors on your site longer (reducing bounce rate) — #2. If you're making these errors, you're sabotaging your SEO: - Using generic "click here" or "read more" as anchor text - Only linking from new posts to old ones (never the reverse) - Creating random links with no strategic purpose Each of these mistakes is costing you rankings. — #3. The Topic Cluster Strategy That Works Create one comprehensive pillar post for each main topic you want to rank for. Then, build supporting articles that all link back to that pillar. This signals to Google: "We're a serious authority on this topic." Example structure: - Pillar: "Complete Email Marketing Guide" - Supporting: "Subject Line Formulas," "Email Automation Workflows," "List Building Tactics" All supporting articles link to the pillar and to each other when relevant. — #4. The Monthly Internal Linking Process Follow this simple system: - In all new blog posts, link to your relevant older content - At the end of each month, go back and add links from old posts to your fresh content - Run a quick check for orphan pages and add internal links — #5. Anchor Text Best Practices The words you use in your links matter more than you think: ❌ NEVER use: - "Click here" - "Read more" - "Learn more" ✅ ALWAYS use keyword variations: - "Email marketing strategy" - "SEO audit checklist" - "Link building tactics" — #7. The Power Page Strategy Identify your highest-authority pages (those with the most backlinks). Use these "power pages" strategically to pass link equity to your most important commercial pages. Example: - Your "Email Marketing Statistics" post has 50 backlinks - Add internal links from this to your "Email Marketing Software" page - Watch your commercial page climb in rankings This hack alone can transform your conversion rates. — #8. Internal Linking Audit Process Run a quick audit with Screaming Frog (free version works for sites under 500 pages). Look for these easy wins: - Pages with fewer than 3 internal links pointing to them - Broken internal links that lead nowhere - Redirect chains that waste link equity Fix these issues first for immediate ranking improvements. — The bottom line: Internal linking isn't the sexiest SEO tactic. But it works ridiculously well. - Spend just 2 hours per month on it - Be strategic about your anchor text - Regularly update old content with new links

Authority isn't built overnight. Most sites focus on backlinks and call it done. But Google (and AI systems) look at a wider set of trust signals. I pulled the most effective tactics from our research at Semrush into 5 specific actions you can apply this week: Tip 1: Get quality backlinks with valuable content Create original research, case studies, or comprehensive guides that journalists and bloggers can cite. Use the Link Building Tool to find high-authority prospects and reach out with personalized pitches. Tip 2: Optimize content for relevant keywords Use Keyword Magic Tool to find keywords with manageable difficulty scores for your domain. Group them into topic clusters, then create content that matches search intent and is structured for AI retrieval with clear headings and complete answers. Tip 3: Develop a solid internal linking strategy Find your highest-authority pages in the Backlinks tool and use them to distribute link equity across your site. Connect topic clusters, fix orphan pages, and repair broken internal links to keep your link graph healthy. Tip 4: Get mentions from across the web Identify trust hubs in your industry (sites that rank for buyer-intent searches), build relationships through podcasts and newsletters, and use Brand Monitoring to turn unlinked mentions into backlinks. Get active in communities like Reddit, Inc. and LinkedIn where AI systems frequently pull answers. Tip 5: Build an AI-friendly content structure Make sure AI crawlers can access your pages (check robots.txt and Site Audit's "Blocked from AI Search" widget), reduce JavaScript dependency for core content, and add schema markup for Organization, Person, and Product entities with @id and sameAs properties.

From ZERO traction, flat rankings, organic traffic not moving at all → to real IMPACT. Being found. Relevance. When Felix Norton audited a client’s site (an event hiring marketplace) one thing immediately stood out: there were no internal links. And the few that did exist lacked keyword-rich anchor text and pointed nowhere strategically important. This client had been with Felix’s agency for 3 months. His team had been producing high-quality blog content consistently, targeting relevant topics with strong on-page optimization. Then it became clear: All that great content was living in isolation. There were no links connecting related blog posts. No links pointing to the product and service pages: the real revenue drivers. No internal structure to help Google understand what mattered most on the site. So Felix made a key change: He implemented a strategic internal linking framework. Every new blog post linked to relevant service pages using descriptive, keyword-rich anchor text. Older posts were updated to connect with newer content, creating topical clusters. High-authority pages were used to distribute link equity to lower-performing but important pages. The impact was immediate. Google could now crawl the site more efficiently, understand content relationships, and identify priority pages. Within weeks, the site started gaining visibility and driving meaningful traffic. Internal linking isn’t just a technical detail, it’s one of the most powerful tools in SEO. It boosts crawlability, distributes authority, and signals relevance without writing a single new word. If your content isn’t delivering results, check your internal links. It could be the simplest fix with the biggest payoff.

A decade ago, the landscape of link-building resembled the Wild West. Tactics included: -Amassing links without regard to source quality. -mass outreach and emails with no personalization -Relying on directory submissions and comment spam. -Using automated tools to create mass low-quality backlinks -Embracing private blog networks for popularity. Diversification in link-building was rare. Companies typically focused their efforts on: Directing all links to their homepage, sales pages, or blog posts. Fast forward to 2024, and link-building has undergone a profound transformation. Today, the most successful brands I collaborate with have adopted a more strategic approach: 👉 For blog pages: Engaging in three-way link swaps and partnerships, collaborating with companies in related niches to share high-quality content. 👉 For product pages: Securing guest posts or niche edits on relevant, reputable sites. 👉 For data-driven assets (such as original research): Obtaining PR links or leveraging HARO to feature their stories and data on prominent platforms. 👉 For the main page: Employing strategies like listicle outreach, among others. Modern link-building revolves around crafting a strategy centered on exceptional content, followed by identifying the most suitable avenues for acquiring links. It's about conducting highly personalized outreach, fostering enduring relationships, and delivering mutual value. That's the crux of contemporary link-building. How has your approach to link-building evolved over time? Share your thoughts below!

I just spent $850 on a single backlink (𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜'𝗱 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻). Most SEO agencies would have built 2-3 links with that budget, charging around $340 per link, paying only $150 in total for their investment. This is why standardized link-packages & SEO agencies are THE most expensive SEO investment (mistake) you'll ever make. 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝗺𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻. Last week, I analyzed a new e-commerce client who spent $10K on "budget-friendly" links over 6 months. Their rankings barely moved. Meanwhile, we spent $850 on ONE strategic backlink for this client - from a site that: - Ranks for the exact keywords we're targeting - Attracts the specific audience our client needs - Drives substantial relevant traffic - Has genuine topical authority (not just a high DR number) Two weeks later, their brand category page jumped from page 3 to page 1. 🚀 This single page now generates an additional $27K in monthly revenue. That's a 3,600% ROI from ONE link... PER MONTH! The truth nobody wants to admit: 10 weak links aren't equal to 1 powerful, contextually relevant link. The industry has brainwashed brands to accept this - to ask "𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘁?" But this approach is totally flawed and it leads to sub-optimal results for the eCommerce clients. Those "cheap" links? They're often built on sites with: - Zero real traffic (faked and bloated) - No editorial standards - No relevance to your industry - Questionable link neighborhoods - Even worse - they risk penalties that can tank your entire SEO investment. Great SEO isn't about rigid link quotas. It's about strategic placement in the exact places your customers already trust. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆: - We allocate a monthly budget for each client - Some months we might build 3 premium links, others we might build 10 - Every decision is based on manual outreach results, quoted prices, and our rigorous quality assessment We focus on the right links for YOUR specific situation, not hitting arbitrary numbers When your business earns real revenue from search, stop gambling with low-quality links. A single premium placement can outperform hundreds of garbage links. The ROI speaks for itself.

You can get 5,000 backlinks. You can penny pinch to get the “cheapest cost per link.” None of that drives business outcomes any executive actually cares about. Effective link building is a quality first game. It's a resource allocation and input-output maximization game. The real work is in the strategy. Choosing the right pages, modeling search intent, being intentional about anchor text, and then using GOOD links (not 1 million links) as a lever to drive PageRank toward a specific business outcome: more visibility at decision stages, more form fills, more demos, more SQLs, more revenue. When link building is treated as a commodity from a "vendor" and not strategic partners who know how to leverage links as a tool, not a success metric, you get busy work and activity. Reports and lists of 500 links this week, yet no ROI. Why? They don't even know why they are doing the link building.... Cheap vendors are perpetually trapped in order taking, rather than strategy crafting, and thus never actually understand what links do, how to properly leverage them in a broader brand visibility strategy centered on lead gen, etc. A link is not a link. They are not all created equal. Price is correlative to value. When links are treated as strategy, you get results that you can actually show your exec team. Focusing on milking the "cost per link" to the bottom pushes quality to the bottom. Focus on quality per link first, then scale as much of them as you can as fast as possible. It's basic supply and demand + unit economics... Supply of top-tier, truly impactful backlinks is at an all time low. Yet demand is at an all time high. And you think you are going to get the best links by hiring the cheapest vendor and paying $100 per link? Let's get serious now. $100 good quality link? Cmon. Not when producing a single long-form article that a truly amazing website would even consider publishing (after going through 3-4 rounds of edits of course) costs 6-10x that. Good backlinks are not cheap because they produce outsized returns per unit. A single backlink in a BOFU decision stage article ranking solutions, software, services in your space = massive visibility from in-market buyers = leads = sales. I have seen single backlink placements in high-ranking BOFU content drive $100,000+ per month in sales. A single page. A single link placement. Properly targeted at the bottom of the funnel where demand exists right now. And that's not even including the SEO benefits of getting that link, such as increasing your own page ranking for those difficult BOFU keywords so you can own that traffic long term, too. Cheap now = expensive later. Quality first, volume only once quality is there, all guided by a strategy that isn't just "build some links and rankings should rise".
