Most analysts think the fastest way to grow their career is to stack up more technical skills. SQL. Python. DAX. Power BI. Fabric. Early in my career, I thought the same. I believed mastery of tools alone would set me apart. I learned the hard way  technical skills get you in the door, but power skills move you up the ladder. Here are 3 that will define the best analysts in 2025: 1. Soft Skills (Collaboration over Code) The analysts who win are the ones who listen deeply, adapt quickly, and bring others with them. They turn “data requests” into real partnerships. 2. Business Fluency (Speak Strategy, Not Just SQL) If you can’t connect your insights to revenue, cost savings, or strategy, you’ll always be “the report person.” The best analysts become business drivers. 3. Stakeholder Storytelling (Insight → Action) The insight itself isn’t enough. You need to frame it as a story that inspires belief and sparks action. If you’re an analyst, remember: Your growth isn’t just about the reports you build. It’s about the influence you create. The analysts who rise in 2025 won’t be known for their syntax. They’ll be remembered for the way they made people act on data. 📌 Save this for your next performance review prep. ♻ Repost to help another analyst level up beyond the tools. ➕ Follow Leon Gordon for daily insights on Data, AI, and Microsoft careers.

The Missing Quotient in Modern Leadership: We talk a lot about IQ and and EQ for leaders. But I believe, there's a third quotient that separates good leaders from truly future-ready ones who can create significant value for their organizations. Digital Quotient. DQ. DQ is the ability to think digitally while looking at a business problem and instinctively ask: can tech solve this better, faster and more reliably than adding more manpower? That mindset shift alone is transformational. DQ is not about being a technologist but having the mindset to connect business problems with digital solutions. Leaders who develop this capability are better positioned to drive efficiency, scale and long-term competitive advantage. The Traditional problem solving approach: For decades, the default response to operational challenges has been to hire more people and build bigger teams. Adding more headcount is increasingly expensive, slow and error-prone in a world where digital solutions exist. Leaders who develop their DQ don't replace people. They free their employees to do higher order and more creative work. Here's a simple framework that I've learned from my own experience solving business problems by building digital solutions with teams. 1. Start with clarity on the problem statement. What exactly are we trying to solve? 2. Reframe the problem in simple terms in a few sentences. 3. Think digital-first solutions. Work closely with cross-functional and technology teams while building the solution. Don't delegate and disappear. Be present as the solution takes shape. 4. Test the solution as a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). A working prototype beats a perfect product every time. 5. Iterate based on feedback from users and then deploy at scale. 6. Track metrics rigorously to assess effectiveness and impact of the solution. Then repeat. Pick the next problem and go again. Why This Matters Right Now The successful leaders of the future will be the ones who can bridge the gap between a business challenge and a digital solution. That's the promise of thinking digitally. It also helps to solve problems ‘at scale’ most economically. Further, most of these solutions are faster to develop and implement. This change starts not in the IT department, but in the mind of every leader willing to develop their DQ. As organizations evolve, the role of a leader is changing to act as a bridge between business solutions and digital products and services that give a seamless experience to customers. Building Digital Quotient is therefore not optional, it is a core leadership capability for the future. The good news is that it can be learned. And the best way to learn it is by doing, one problem, one solution, one iteration at a time. How are you developing your Digital Quotient? What experiences have shaped your thinking? Would love to hear from you in the comments.

Soft Skills Are the Hardest Part of Cybersecurity Cybersecurity isn’t just about firewalls, encryption, or threat hunting. It’s about people. And that’s where it gets tough. The hardest battles aren’t always against malware—they can be in cross-functional meetings, or even within your own team. Here are the soft skills that truly define cybersecurity leaders 👇 1 - Communication: ↳ It’s not about throwing around technical jargon. Your job is to translate complex security risks into simple language that executives understand and care about. For example, don’t say, “We have a vulnerability in our IAM configuration.” Instead say, “There’s a gap that could allow unauthorized access to critical systems, risking data exposure.” 2 - Negotiation: ↳ Security isn’t always the top priority for every department. You’ll need to balance security needs with business goals. Can’t enforce 2FA on a legacy system? Negotiate compensating controls. The goal is not to win every battle—it’s to find solutions that secure the business without stalling it. 3 - Good Report Writing: ↳ Technical skills mean little if you can’t document your work effectively. A well-written security report isn’t just a data dump—it tells a story. Instead of, “SIEM logs indicated anomalous traffic,” write, “Our monitoring tools detected suspicious activity that may indicate a breach. We investigated, contained the issue, and recommend X, Y, Z to prevent recurrence.” The best cybersecurity professionals aren’t just technical experts. They’re the ones who can communicate risks, negotiate outcomes, and write reports that drive decisions Master these, and you’ll elevate from being just a security practitioner to a security leader. Good luck in your cybersecurity journey!

Social Media @ The Folio Society | Content Creator 🎥

If I were to start my career in social media right now, here’s what I would do: ✨ Create a social media manager portfolio. Even if you don’t have experience yet, this is your space to show your skills and creativity. You can build mock projects like content for your favourite brand or your own mini campaigns. I’d recommend using Canva so you can easily share a link and add it straight to your CV. ✨ Focus on building your skills. As social media managers, we wear a lot of hats. The more skills you can develop early on, the more confident you’ll feel and the more you’ll stand out. Think copywriting, video editing, creating graphics, data analysis, content creation. These are things you’ll grow into over time, but if you can start now, it’ll help massively. When I started, I was already comfortable with video content and editing. The rest I’ve learned over the last four years. ✨ Join marketing communities. I wish I’d done this earlier. Communities give you real insight into the industry and help you connect with others who are on the same path. A few to look into: Pretty Little Marketer Insiders Club, Girl Power Marketing, Grad Girl Marketing, Girls in Marketing. ✨ Keep up with social media news. Even if you aren’t managing accounts yet, it’s important to stay up to date with what’s happening in the industry. It’s also a great way to stand out in interviews, when you can talk about what’s going on. Some of the newsletters I read include Social Media Today, LLC, Pretty Little Marketer, Annie-Mai Hodge and HeyOrca. ✨ Start a social media account of your own. This isn’t about being an influencer or becoming a full-time creator. It’s about choosing a topic you’re passionate about and learning to create content around it. It’s the best way to practice creating content, building an account and growing an engaged community. It also shows that you can actually grow a social account. This is what I did. I started a food and travel TikTok and managed to grow it to 5K followers, with several videos hitting over 500K views. It taught me so much about the foundation skills needed for this career. I know breaking into the industry right now is tough, but I want to make sure we’re helping those going through the job hunt feel more supported and a little less overwhelmed.💖 To my fellow social media managers, is there anything you would add?💡

SQL and Python are great, but they won’t guarantee your success in 2025. Here’s what will. 👇 The data job market is evolving faster than ever. While technical skills are still important, they are no longer enough to stand out. Employers want candidates who can bridge the gap between data and decisions. Here are 3 underrated skills that will help you shine in 2025: 🔹 Data Storytelling Being able to turn complex data into actionable insights is priceless. Use tools like PowerPoint or Tableau to create compelling visuals that resonate with stakeholders. Remember: It’s not about the numbers; it’s about the story they tell. 🔹 Business Acumen Understanding your industry is a superpower. Learn how your role contributes to business goals—profitability, customer retention, or market expansion. Pro tip: Study company case studies or dive into industry blogs. 🔹 Stakeholder Management Collaborating with non-technical teams is often overlooked but essential. Build the habit of asking, “What problem are we trying to solve?” Effective communication is the key to driving impact. 💡 Resources to Get Started: 📍 For storytelling: Check out Storytelling with Data by Cole Nussbaumer Knaflic. 📍 For business acumen: Take free courses on platforms like Coursera or edX. 📍 For stakeholder management: Practice by presenting insights to friends or mentors for feedback. Your technical skills are your foundation. These underrated skills will set you apart 💯 What other skills do you think will be game-changers in 2025? 🔍 AI Competence: A Legal Requirement and a Leadership Imperative 🤖💼 From February 2025, all companies in the EU that develop or deploy AI must ensure their employees have adequate AI competence (EU AI Regulation, Art. 4). This isn’t just a compliance checkbox—it’s a profound shift in how organizations, leaders, and employees must engage with AI. But what does “AI competence” really mean for all of us? 🚀 For Leaders: AI competence goes beyond understanding technology. Leaders must: Decipher AI insights: Turn complex AI outputs into actionable strategies. Ethically integrate AI: Balance innovation with accountability and fairness. The leaders who will thrive are those who embrace the AI-Augmented Leader mindset—combining technical fluencywith core human qualities like awareness, wisdom, and compassion. 💼 For Organizations: AI competence is now a strategic asset. Companies must: Upskill teams: Create training programs to ensure employees understand how to use AI effectively and responsibly. Embed AI in culture: Foster an environment where AI is seen as a partner, not a threat. Redefine roles: AI will reshape job descriptions and skills requirements. Organizations must be proactive in redesigning workflows. As providers of AI-based HR diagnostics tools, we see this transformation every day. Companies that embed AI into their people strategies aren’t just gaining efficiency—they’re reshaping their workforces for the future. 🤝 For Us as AI-Based HR Diagnostics Providers: With our certification classes at Zortify we’ve been ahead of the curve since 2022, empowering HR departments and leaders across industries to: Use our tools effectively: Training teams not only to apply our AI-driven diagnostics but to understand the technology behind them. Learn about the EU AI Act: Educating organizations on compliance, ethical AI use, and how to leverage AI as a force for good. Build AI confidence: By demystifying AI, we’ve helped leaders move from apprehension to excitement about its potential. This early focus on AI literacy has positioned us as trusted partners, ready to help organizations navigate the 2025 mandate with confidence and capability. The Bottom Line: AI competence isn’t just a legal requirement—it’s a leadership capability that defines the future of work. Organizations and leaders must move beyond fear of AI, embracing it as a tool to elevate human potential. For us, this isn’t just a business opportunity; it’s a mission to empower organizations to thrive in the AI age. 👉 How are you preparing your organization for the EU’s 2025 AI competence mandate? Hyperpersonalization: advanced segmentation and personalized campaigns deliver more relevant experiences, boosting engagement and connection with the audience. 3.
