Looking around, I see many online stores leaving $100,000/month on the table. Let’s fix that. Most eCommerce stores rely on outdated SEO tactics like: Broad, competitive keywords Generic product descriptions Thin category pages Random blogs that don’t convert Here’s a 10-step strategy that actually works 1. Build a Solid Technical Foundation Your site must load fast and run smoothly. Optimize site speed (sub-3s load time). Enable mobile-first design. Compress images without sacrificing quality. 2. Target High-Intent Keywords Skip broad, competitive keywords. Focus on commercial intent long-tails. How to Find Them: Use tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush to identify keywords with lower difficulty and solid search volume. Group keywords into clusters (“men’s running shoes” > “best running shoes for flat feet” > “lightweight running shoes for marathon training”). Examples: Instead of “shoes,” target “waterproof hiking boots for women” or “best trail running shoes for rocky terrain.” Use semantic SEO to include terms like “durable soles,” “lightweight,” or “breathable materials” to capture more intent. 3. Optimize Category Pages Category pages drive major traffic, don’t waste the opportunity. Write detailed descriptions with engaging headers. Add FAQs and customer reviews. Link to related products and subcategories. 4. Build High-Converting Product Pages Your product pages need to rank AND convert. Write unique descriptions (skip manufacturer copy). Add trust signals: Free shipping, secure payment badges, and reviews. Use structured data for rich snippets (e.g., star ratings). 5. Implement a Content Strategy Content builds authority and attracts traffic. Create blog clusters around buyer questions. Example cluster: “How to Choose the Right Backpack” → “Top 10 Lightweight Tents.” Link blogs to category and product pages to guide conversion. 6. Build a Local Strategy (If Relevant) Optimize for regional searches: Create location pages like “Hiking Gear Store in Denver.” Target location-specific terms: “hiking gear near [City].” 7. Use Schema Implementation Schema boosts rankings and CTRs. Add product schema (prices, reviews). Use FAQ schema for common customer questions. 8. Build Authority With Backlinks Backlinks build credibility. Pitch niche blogs or create data-driven guides for linkable content. Use competitor analysis tools to find backlink gaps. Aim at least 30% of links at your homepage. 9. Implement a Conversion Strategy Traffic is great, but conversions pay the bills. Retarget cart-abandoners: “Still interested? Get 10% off now!” Offer incentives like free shipping or discounts. Use exit-intent pop-ups: “Before you go, here’s 10% off!” 10. Monitor Performance With Analytics Track metrics like keyword rankings, bounce rates, and conversion rates. Underperforming pages? Refresh content and add internal links. Dropping CTR? Test new meta titles/descriptions.
SEO Strategies for Marketing Teams

Summary
SEO strategies for marketing teams are structured plans to improve website visibility and bring in more qualified customers from search engines, focusing on business goals rather than just rankings. These strategies help teams attract, convert, and retain customers by aligning SEO with sales and content efforts, using tailored approaches for different industries and resources.
- Align with goals: Start your SEO process by identifying the business objectives—whether it's more leads, stronger brand presence, or sales—and build your strategy to support these outcomes.
- Customize your approach: Tailor your keyword targeting, content creation, and technical updates to your specific audience and industry instead of using a generic plan.
- Integrate across teams: Make SEO part of your broader marketing efforts by connecting it with user experience, conversion strategies, and sales initiatives for a unified impact.

If I were the Head of Marketing at a DTC brand today, here’s the 90‑day search strategy I’d use to turn search into a dependable revenue channel (SEO, GEO, AI, and all): 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝟭: 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 We’d kick things off by mapping real search behavior to buyer intent. • Identify keyword themes with high-conversion intent, even if low-volume • Group terms by stage in the journey (awareness, comparison, ready-to-buy) • Find opportunities where intent is strong but rankings or coverage are weak • Spot pages that lost visibility in 2025 from Google’s AI overviews or new layouts • Audit overlapping URLs on the same topic and consolidate where it makes sense • Review indexing and crawl health in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools • Make sure every page has a clear purpose and meets core on-page best practices 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹: A search strategy rooted in real behavior, and a site structure built to support it. 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝟮: 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗰𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 Armed with data, we’d start making moves: • Tune high-value product and category pages for relevance (collapse fluff, surface specs, ingredients, comparisons) • Create 3–5 “problem-to-product” collections (acne-safe sunscreen, scent‑free laundry for babies) tied to query clusters, with 150–250 words of buyer copy and FAQs • Deprecate content that’s too broad, outdated, or disconnected from the journey • Shift the blog from random topics → content that solves real pain points • Optimize Google Merchant Center, images, and feeds so key products show in Shopping, organic product grids, and AI‑powered panels 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹: Focus content and pages around how people actually search and buy. 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝟯: 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 Now it’s time to drive attention to the content on your site: • Brief writers on the new strategy so content isn’t just optimized, it’s actually useful • Blend SEO research, brand positioning, and competitor insights into each piece • Prioritize 5 industry publications, pitching data or teardown angles (not generic guest posts) to earn backlinks and mentions • Audit Reddit, Quora, and niche communities, providing 3 helpful, non-promotional answers per week • Track which topics and pages surface in AI overviews or other AI search tools and double down on those themes 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹: Drive more visibility to your content, from sources your buyers trust. Most brands overthink SEO. Or worse, treat it like a checklist. But when you align search to your real customer journey and use AI, Shopping, and smart promotion to your advantage? You build a traffic source that acts as a real revenue engine.

SEO is nothing but a waste of time… If it isn’t one that aligns with your specific resources and business objectives. Instead of blindly chasing rankings, smart businesses match their SEO strategy to their existing capabilities and true objectives. More traffic? More sales? Stronger brand authority? Each requires a DIFFERENT approach… 1. Increasing website traffic Ask yourself: Do you have a content team? • Yes → Content-Driven SEO (Organic Growth) Focus on creating high-quality blog content, doing keyword research, and building topic clusters. Tools: Semrush Ahrefs Google Search Console • No → Backlink-Focused SEO If you don’t have a content team, invest in link building through outreach, guest posts, and digital PR. Tools: Majestic Ahrefs HARO (Help a Reporter Out) 2. Generating more leads or sales Do you have an ad budget? • Yes → SEO + Paid Search Hybrid Approach Run Google Ads while optimizing your landing pages for conversions. Paid search drives immediate traffic, and SEO builds long-term leads. Tools: Google Ads SearchAtlas Hotjar • No → Local SEO / CRO Optimization Focus on optimizing your Google My Business profile and improving your website’s conversion rate. Perfect if you’re targeting local customers. Tools: Google My Business BrightLocal 3. Improving brand authority Do you have industry experts on your team? • Yes → Thought Leadership SEO Leverage your experts to publish whitepapers, long-form content, and industry insights that position your brand as a leader. Tools: LinkedIn Medium Substack • No → Influencer / Guest Blogging SEO Build authority by collaborating with partners, securing guest posts, and doing interviews to reach new audiences. Tools: BuzzSumo HARO (Help a Reporter Out) 4. Fixing technical issues & site health Have you done an SEO audit in the last 6 months? • Yes → Advanced Technical SEO Go deeper by optimizing Core Web Vitals, adding schema markup, and improving your site’s structure for better performance. Tools: Google PageSpeed Insights Screaming Frog SEO Spider Ahrefs Site Audit • No → Basic Technical SEO Audit Start by checking for broken links, mobile usability, and page speed issues. A healthy site is non-negotiable for SEO. Tools: Semrush Site Audit Google Search Console Screaming Frog SEO Spider (Free version) Without alignment between your strategy and resources, SEO becomes an $$$ expensive distraction rather than a business driver.

Product-led SEO isn’t a trend... It’s the new default for SaaS teams that want organic SQLs. Here’s how to do it: ✅ 1. Use-case tutorials > generic "blogs" Stop writing about “How to be productive at work”. This is likely to be a zero-click search, easily answered by AI. Your minimal potential traffic gains are not worth the investment. Instead, build use-case content that actual decision makers read and crave depth on: → “How [persona] teams manage async workflows in [Product Name]” Your product is the tutorial, the content, and the solution. And it genuinely educates, helps, and solves problems for your ICP. ✅ 2. Integration + feature pages that are built to rank, not just sit in your header menu Way too many SaaS brands have poorly optimized integrations and feature pages hiding in their header. They look fancy from a UX standpoint, but rank for nothing. Useless to anyone but already qualified users hitting your site. Not picking up any new demand themselves. You’re sitting on dozens of high-intent keywords: • “[Tool A] + [Tool B]” • “[Product] for [Industry]” • “[Feature] for [Use case]” These pages aren’t just SEO plays… they’re enablement assets for your sales team, too. Start treating them as search pages, not just pretty landing pages that get zero new eyes per month. You can capture demand with them outside of people already landing on your site when deployed properly. ✅ 3. TRUSTWORTHY alternatives + comparison pages These are sales qualified lead powerhouses when executed well. Most teams half-a** them and make them too self-promotional, or are scared to list their actual competition. Readers can tell you aren't listing the main competitors, folks, and they don’t trust you because of it. The winners: → Show clear, honest side-by-sides → Use quotes, visuals, and transparent pricing → Gather honest reviews for both products to let the user decide ✅ 4. Content that helps users succeed with the product This is where SEO and customer success overlap. Think: → Setup guides → Templates + workflows → Onboarding checklists → Mini-tools and calculators This content ranks and retains. The key shift is: Product-led SEO doesn’t treat content as marketing. It treats it as UX. Done right, it improves: → Rankings → Conversion → Activation → Retention → Even LLM visibility That’s what we’re helping clients build every day at uSERP, and it’s working. Product-led SEO isn't a trend, and it's more important than ever with zero-click searches on the rise. Adjust your strategy to meet actual decision makers, not generate meaningless traffic. Your budget and ROI will thank you later.

What 20 Years in SEO Has Taught Me About Building a Process That Actually Works There’s a reason most SEO strategies fall flat: They’re built for deliverables, not for growth. Keyword research, title tags, backlinks; all necessary. But if your process isn’t tied directly to lead generation and revenue, it won’t move the business forward. After two decades in SEO and running an agency, here’s what I’ve learned: 1️⃣ Start With the End in Mind The Mistake: Most SEO strategies start with what the agency wants to do: blogs, audits, etc. ✅ The Fix: ✔️ Start with what the business needs: leads, sales, market share. ✔️ Reverse-engineer the SEO strategy from those goals. ✔️ Every action should connect back to a measurable outcome. 2️⃣ Build a Process That’s Repeatable, Not Generic The Mistake: Agencies recycle the same template for every client. ✅ The Fix: ✔️ Create a framework, not a checklist. ✔️ Customize keyword targeting, content plans, and technical priorities based on business model and audience. ✔️ Document it so your team can scale it without losing strategy. 3️⃣ Don’t Separate SEO From the Rest of the Business The Mistake: SEO is treated like an isolated task list. ✅ The Fix: ✔️ Integrate SEO with CRO, UX, sales goals, and brand positioning. ✔️ Your website should attract, convert, and build trust all at once. ✔️ SEO should support the business; not just traffic reports. At HigherVisibility, we spent years refining our SEO process into what we now call the Targeted Growth System™. It’s built for one thing: helping clients drive qualified traffic that turns into revenue. Not fluff. Not filler. Just what works. If your SEO process isn’t delivering growth, it’s time to rethink the system behind it.

June 2026 SEO results for a contract manufacturer client: ✅ 69 organic leads, beating the monthly goal ✅ First-time calls from organic up +75% ✅ 348 keywords now ranking in Google's top 3, including the #1 spot for a core metal-stamping money term ✅ Organic traffic up +25% year over year ✅ $858K in SEO revenue YTD Here's how we did it. Seven layers, run consistently, and actionable for you (pulled straight from our task log): 1. Build a page for every material, part, and industry they serve. An engineer searches "titanium stamping," or "stampings for busbars," or "metal stamping for oil and gas." So we mapped that grid and published a dedicated page for each cell: material pages, application pages, and industry pages. 2. Pull the content out of the client's head and off their shop floor. In a technical niche, generic content loses, so we drove out to the facility to capture photos and audio, turned it into videos and posts, and had their engineers review the money pages for accuracy. This is the kind of work this Sixth City Marketing team does that makes me so proud to work here and it's why our clients win. 3. Make a text-heavy site pleasant to use. Redesigning page templates, adding graphics, charts, and infographics to pages that were walls of spec text, breadcrumbs, and cleaning up the mega-menu. Smooth out the UX as much as possible and use Clarity to spot issues and confirm solutions. 4. Build the most linkable assets out of boring industry data. A well-researched statistics and trends post (reshoring, domestic manufacturing) pulls backlinks in a niche where that can be tough to do. One tip: keep the year out of the URL so you can refresh the same post annually instead of starting over. 5. Show up off-site every single month. Expert-source and PR-style links, directory work, and unlinked-mention cleanup, done on a monthly cadence instead of in bursts. Nothing clever, just consistent. 6. Treat internal linking as a monthly job, not a one-time cleanup. With a lot of pages, internal links with specific anchor text are how authority and context reaches the money pages. It's on our task list every month. 7. Keep updating the pages that already work. New keyword variations, FAQs, comparison tables, and "key takeaways" added to existing pages, plus a full reformat of our single highest-traffic post. Map every material, part, and industry your buyer searches, publish a page for each, wire them together, and keep the whole thing fed. Account Strategist: Steve DiMatteo

After 7 years of building SEO and content strategies for B2B brands (including one that grew organic traffic value by $682K per month) I can tell you this: the best SEO strategies don’t start with keywords. They start with revenue. Your SEO strategy should mirror your sales funnel. Each content cluster should move people closer to the pipeline: awareness → interest → conversion → loyalty Start with your highest-value product or service. Identify the pain points it solves. Then build content and keywords that bridge pain to product. Your SEO shouldn’t just attract traffic. It should attract intent. SEO isn’t about chasing algorithms. It’s about connecting purpose to profit.

SEO is Not Dead - The Old SEO Playbook is Officially Outdated (And here’s what smart firms are doing instead) For years, SEO meant one thing: ranking for a list of 10-20 keywords. That game’s over—and it’s been replaced with something better. Here’s what the smartest SEO firms are doing now: ~ Content hubs over blog spam ~ Google Business as a publishing platform ~ AI-assisted high-intent content, human-edited for trust ~ Reputation & reviews as ranking factors ~ Links via PR, podcasts, and community-building ~ Reporting that focuses on journey + visibility, not just traffic (Google Search Console is so overlooked) Instead of asking, “Where do we rank for [keyword]?” Ask: “Are we showing up when it matters most?” We call this the Search Visibility System. It’s strategic, measurable, and aligns perfectly with our customer journey tool, The Marketing Hourglass™. Want help rethinking how your business (or agency) does SEO?
