I want to share a perspective that might be unexpected: Influencer marketing may not always directly contribute to your sales. Here’s why Brands are treating the influencers like a human billboard. They hand over a script to creators to recite in front of the camera and expect the customers to love it. But it leads to the audience feeling disconnected not just from the influencer but also from the brand. A report stated that 72% of consumers unfollow influencers promoting products in an inauthentic way. I recently unfollowed an influencer whose sponsored content felt like a blatant advertisement, completely disconnected from their usual style and personality. A classic example is when Tata Tea launched “Fruski” in 2017 and did influencer marketing on Twitter(X) with different creators, one of which was comedian Biswa Kalyan Nath. He tweeted about the product but it was so plain and boring that it seemed to be scripted and didn’t sound like a comedian’s tweet at all. This led to a failure. The audience wants authenticity and value from the creators. But some brands forget this and force their product into the creator’s life and content. The right approach to influencer marketing is to identify creators where your product naturally fits into their content and lifestyle. An excellent example is how Noise leveraged Virat Kohli's love for Chhole Bhature and fitness to promote their brand in the #SunoDilKaShor campaign. At Vavo Digital | Influencer Marketing, our approach is to prioritize authenticity and value alignment. We integrate strategies that ensure the messaging resonates with the creator's audience and drives real impact. This includes: - promoting genuine conversations around the product or service. - conducting thorough research to match brands with suitable influencers - encouraging influencers to incorporate products seamlessly into their content By focusing on authentic collaborations, we aim to create a win-win situation for both brands and influencers, building trust and long-lasting relationships with their respective audiences. What’s a recent influencer’s branded content that you loved or hated? #influencermarketing #marketingcampaign #marketing

Even though 90% of the brands vouch for influencer marketing because of its effectiveness, most still struggle with the same issue. For them finding the right influencer is never easy but one of the toughest decisions to make. Just because an influencer worked wonders for one brand doesn't mean they're the ideal match for yours. 5 key factors that will tell you when to invest your time in an influencer: 1/ Influencers may set their rates based on the size of their audience, but it's not just about numbers. Ensure their audience comprises real, engaged individuals who resonate with their content. 2/ Look for influencers whose content aligns with your brand's offerings. A narrower focus, like yoga instead of general exercise, can lead to higher engagement from their dedicated followers. 3/ Specific sub-niche influencers tend to build strong credibility with their audience. Their authenticity and trustworthiness can drive significant results for your brand. 4/ Beyond content, assess an influencer's personal and professional image. Does it align with your brand's values? An influencer's persona should resonate with your target audience and complement your brand's identity. 5/ Look for influencers whose followers actively like, comment, share and click on their posts. Understand platform-specific benchmarks and ensure your influencers meet these standards. Effective influencer marketing is about finding the right partner, not just a popular one. By selecting influencers who tick these boxes, you can maximise the potential of your campaigns and ensure that your marketing budget is wisely invested. Your influencer partnerships should tell your brand's story with authenticity, credibility, and engagement. The High Stakes of Choosing a Brand Ambassador: Get It Right or Risk It All In today’s digital-first world, social media is where brands connect, engage, and build loyalty. Ambassadors and influencers are powerful tools in this space, offering a direct line to potential customers. But selecting the right face for your brand requires deep thought, information on perception and a clear vision on way forward. it’s not just about popularity and mass outreach but also alignment with your values, goals and audience’s aspirations. The stakes are high, wrong choices can harm your reputation, while the right ones can drive growth and foster deep connections. Purpose Before Persona The first step in any partnership is clarity of purpose. Are you seeking to launch a product, boost visibility, or build long-term loyalty? Once the objective is clear, evaluate potential ambassadors and influencers based on their credibility, lifestyle, social presence, and audience relevance. Their values and persona must align seamlessly with your brand identity to ensure authenticity and trustworthiness. Macro and Micro-Influencers: A Strategic Balance While brand ambassadors tend to have a broad, macro-level impact, influencers bring flexibility and precision, especially in micro and niche markets. Macro influencers, often celebrities, are excellent for widespread visibility and shaping brand perception. On the other hand, micro and nano influencers excel at driving conversions and building community trust. For instance, a jewellery brand may onboard a celebrity ambassador to launch new stores or collections while collaborating with micro-influencers who connect with specific demographics, such as young professionals or brides-to-be. Micro-influencers bring relatability, often acting as trusted peers within their communities, which has a profound impact on purchase decisions. The Influence of Lifestyle and Reputation An ambassador’s lifestyle, behaviour in public and overall reputation are critical measure of whether they align with your brand values or not . For instance, a fitness brand would look for someone who embodies health and wellness, while a luxury jewellery brand would gravitate toward a style icon that reflects extravagance and sophistication. Similarly, influencers, though more tactical in their role, must align with the brand's ethos to ensure conversions. Their authenticity drives trust, and their engagement metrics often reveal their potential to influence purchasing behaviour. Why the Right Choice Matters A well-chosen ambassador or influencer can uplift your brand, help it pivot into new categories, and amplify its message to the right audience. Conversely, a misaligned choice can lead to reputational risks and lost trust. By balancing macro and micro strategies, and anchoring decisions in data and research, brands can forge impactful partnerships that drive both short-term results and long-term growth. #celebrity #influencers #brandbuilding

Do you want influencers to truly connect with your brand? Stop treating them like billboards! Think of influencer marketing like a great friendship—it’s built on trust, not just transactions. Do this: “Hey [Influencer], I love how you [specific thing they do]. Your content on [topic] really connects with your audience, and we think our brand aligns perfectly with that. Let’s create something amazing together. Don't do this: “Hi, we’d love for you to promote our product. Here’s the brief. Let us know your rates.” Do this: Give influencers creative freedom! “We love your storytelling style. Here’s our vision—how would you bring it to life in a way that feels natural to your audience?” Don't do this: Micromanage every post. “Use this exact caption, pose like this, and make sure to show the logo in the first three seconds. (Yikes!) Do this: Engage before you pitch. Comment on their posts, share their content, and build a relationship first. When you finally reach out, it won’t feel random—it’ll feel genuine. Don't do this: Cold DM without context. “Hey, we love your content! Can you promote our product?” (No relationship = No response.) See the pattern? Personalization + Trust + Respect = Authenticity. When influencers feel valued, they create content that’s real, not just another #ad. And guess what? Their audience feels it too! So next time you reach out, remember: It’s not just business—it’s a partnership. Build relationships, not just campaigns. Your brand will thank you later. The Role of Influencer Trust in Regulated and Wellness Categories Influencer marketing performs differently in regulated and health adjacent categories than in fashion or entertainment. Data shows that trust and credibility matter more than reach, and that smaller aligned creators often outperform large audiences. What the Data Shows 1. Trust drives conversion more than follower count Consumers evaluating wellness products prioritize authenticity, experience, and education. Influencers with smaller but highly engaged audiences consistently deliver higher conversion rates than large scale creators without category credibility. 2. Education outperforms promotion Content that explains usage, safety, and outcomes performs better than direct selling. Audiences respond more strongly to guidance and personal experience than to overt endorsements. 3. Consistency builds credibility Influencers who integrate wellness products naturally over time build stronger trust than one time promotions. Long term partnerships outperform campaign based activations. 4. Platform compliance shapes strategy Regulated categories require careful messaging. Influencers who understand compliance boundaries reduce risk while maintaining engagement. Brands like V For Vibes focus on influencer partnerships rooted in education, authenticity, and long term alignment rather than reach alone. This approach protects brand trust while driving sustainable performance. Strategic Takeaway In wellness and regulated categories, influence is earned not rented. Brands that prioritize trust based creator relationships achieve stronger conversion, lower reputational risk, and longer lasting impact. This is why V For Vibes treats influencer marketing as a credibility channel rather than a visibility tactic.

82% of creators rank PRODUCT QUALITY as their top partnership consideration. Not your follower count, not your brand name, not your budget. Your actual product. Here's what brands are missing: - A product-first mindset: While marketers obsess over campaign briefs and content guidelines, creators are evaluating your actual product first. 80% want to work with products they already use and like. You can't fake this. - An authenticity equation: 76% of creators evaluate partnerships based on brand reputation and values. Your company culture, customer service, and public actions matter more than your budget. - The relationship advantage: 63% of creators look for future partnership potential. One-off campaigns don't build the brand equity you need with their audiences. US influencer marketing hit $5.89B in 2024 - but how much of that is being wasted on transactional, one-off campaigns that creators themselves don't believe in? What this means for your influencer strategy: → Stop treating creators like advertising channels and start treating them like actual partners → Give them full transparency into campaign objectives and mid-flight performance data → Don't change expectations or compensation after agreements are made (creators talk to each other) → Invest in onboarding, training and support - especially for mid-sized creators Your influencer strategy might be broken if you're choosing creators before they've chosen your product. The strongest partnerships happen when creators authentically love what you make - everything else is just paid advertising. Do your own research. Look at your current creator relationships. And if you can see the opportunity with your own eyes...Take the leap. Your next big influencer win might be with the creator who's already using your product.

I recently had the privilege of working with Lauren and Jason Pak, the dynamic fitness expert duo. What stood out to me: • Value driven consistency For years Lauren and Jason have shown up with content that educates and empowers not just shows off. That intentional clarity has helped them build an engaged audience of over a million. • A shared ethos We had been staying in touch for over a year before the shoot materialized. Their emphasis on inclusivity accessible fitness and genuine connection aligned perfectly with the kind of work I have been showcasing in my own portfolio. • Making it happen together Their dedication was clear. They flew into Miami to make the vision happen. That level of commitment speaks volumes about how much they value the creative process and collaboration. For fellow photographers navigating relationships with brands or influencers: 1. Create content that attracts the right clients Focus on showcasing the type of work and values you want to attract. Build a body of content that resonates with your ideal collaborators. 2. Cultivate relationships over time I nurtured my connection with the Paks for a year before this shoot happened. Give these relationships time to mature. Mutual trust and alignment take time to build. 3. Align around values and vision A successful shoot is not just technically sound. It reflects a shared ethos. When values align the creative process becomes seamless and meaningful. 4. Collaborate early and intentionally Before the shoot, I worked closely with Lauren and Jason to make sure the mood board was perfectly aligned with what they’re looking for and served the mood I wanted to capture. Mood boards aren’t just inspirational, they are collaborative roadmaps that bring clarity, and ensure creative alignment across the entire process. This experience with Lauren and Jason was not just another shoot. It was a powerful reminder that the right work attracts the right partnerships. When you position yourself clearly stay authentic and invest in relationships the creative opportunities you desire start to fall into place. This is something I love coaching on inside of The Freelance Photographer Program. Would love to hear from other photographers what strategies have helped you build meaningful brand relationships.
