One of our customers manages 380 wage types, 9 labour unions, and 5 countries on a single platform. They also helped build the heat shield on the Mars rover. Spirit AeroSystems builds components for virtually every major commercial aircraft flying today, as well as for organisations like NASA. 18,000 employees across the US, UK, France, Malaysia, and Morocco. Until recently, all of it was managed across disconnected systems that couldn't produce a payroll report without weeks of manual work. Getting payroll wrong at that scale isn't a back-office problem. The compliance exposure alone keeps people up at night. Here's what Dayforce made possible: → One platform for all 18,000 employees across 5 countries. Global managed payroll consolidated onto a single system - every country, every union agreement, every wage type. → Reporting that used to take weeks now takes minutes. Real-time payroll visibility by country and region, without a manual data pull every time someone asks a question. → £100,000+ saved annually in the UK alone. From the Workforce Management rollout - plus a reduction of 3 headcount in UK payroll processing. Clay Heidel, MBA, GRP, SPHR, Director of Total Rewards and HR Services, described the difference simply: before Dayforce, their time and energy went on payroll processes. Now it goes on building products. The outcome they achieved with Dayforce? → 380 wage types, 9 labour unions, 5 countries. One system. → Compliance streamlined across US and international tax obligations → A payroll team that finally has its time back When the infrastructure matches the complexity of your business, everything else gets easier. Thank you to Clay and the Spirit AeroSystems team for sharing your story. Full case study in the comments!

Labour Compliance in Startups: Simplified, or So They Say Let’s dig into what labour compliance means for startups. When you’re bootstrapping or scaling, compliance may feel like a low-priority checklist. But labour laws bring a hefty price tag when you miss them. What if there was a smarter way? Enter HR automation tools like Greyt HR and KEKA. But why the fuss? Thresholds and tax structures vary, sometimes within a single act. And while the PF is necessary for security, how it applies (or doesn’t) depends on whether you hit the 20-employee mark. The ESI? Set at 10 employees and only for those earning below ₹21,000 per month. Then there’s Gratuity – an obligation only once an employee clocks five years but one you might want insurance for. One overlooked compliance? The Apprentices Act, 1961. Designed to boost skill development, it offers cost advantages if you’re below certain employee thresholds, but with the catch that apprenticeships should align with legally recognized skill categories. Compliance with this act can offer substantial savings on labour costs while maintaining government-regulated standards of training. Enter the scene: The compliance tools. Traditional, manual compliance tracking is prone to human error, last-minute filings, and unexpected penalties. However, tools like Greyt HR, KEKA, and Zoho People offer a robust solution by automating these processes. Here’s how they help: 1. Automated Tracking and Alerts: These tools come equipped with customizable alerts and reminders for deadlines like PF, ESI, and PT filings, ensuring no monthly or quarterly compliance is overlooked. This feature alone has saved many startups from costly fines by keeping them on track effortlessly. 2. Real-Time Document Management: Compliance means documentation, and tech tools can store and manage these records in real-time, easily retrievable during audits. Rather than sifting through scattered files, you have an organized digital repository, which can save hundreds of hours each year. 3. Compliance Cost Efficiency: Automating compliance tasks reduces dependency on external consultants or internal administrative resources. For example, small startups using Greyt HR’s PF and PT modules reported a 40% cut in compliance outsourcing costs, directly impacting their bottom line. 4. Accurate Payroll Processing and Deductions: Labor compliance requires consistent payroll accuracy, as errors can lead to penalties. Compliance tools automate complex calculations for deductions like EPF, ESI, and gratuity, cutting down errors and making audit trails a breeze. It’s not just about compliance; it's about ensuring a well-structured, streamlined process that’s cost-effective and scalable. And when the tools can adapt as you grow, you can focus on building your business, confident that compliance isn’t holding you back. #StartupCompliance #GreytHR #KEKA #LabourLaws #PayrollSolutions #EmployeeBenefits #GrowthHacks #IndianStartups #HRAutomation

Keka vs Manual HR — Let’s Talk Real Numbers For a 100-employee company, manual HR isn’t “cheap”—it’s just hidden cost. Manual HR: • 2 HR admins: ~₹10L/year • Errors, penalties, compliance risks: ~₹2L/year Total: ~₹12L/year With Keka HRMS: • Software: ~₹3.6L/year • Implementation (Year 1): ~₹2L Total (Year 1): ~₹5.6L Direct savings in Year 1: ~₹6.4L But the real ROI isn’t just cost—it’s capability: ✔ Zero manual payroll & compliance errors ✔ Real-time compliance tracking ✔ Employee self-service (leaves, payslips, reimbursements) ✔ HR shifts from admin to strategy ✔ Data-driven decisions for retention & performance The truth is simple: “Expensive” isn’t the software. Expensive is staying manual. If you’re scaling beyond 50–100 employees, the question isn’t if you need an HRMS: it’s how long you can afford to wait. #HRTech #HRMS #Keka #PayrollAutomation #HRTransformation #FutureOfWork #AvanciersIndia

Day 16 of documenting my SAP EWM + MM journey. Today — Labour Management. Most warehouses know how many tasks were completed. Few know how efficiently each worker performed. SAP EWM Labour Management closes that gap. ━━ THE CONCEPT ━━ Every warehouse task has a planned time — based on Engineered Labour Standards (ELS). The RF scanner records the actual time taken by the worker. The system compares both. Efficiency % = Planned Time ÷ Actual Time × 100. That one number tells the supervisor everything. ━━ THREE TYPES OF LABOUR TRACKED ━━ Direct Labour Time spent on warehouse tasks — picking · putaway · packing · loading. Tied to a specific Warehouse Order. Indirect Labour Support activities not linked to a task. Cleaning · meetings · training · housekeeping. Unproductive Time Breaks · idle time · system downtime. All tracked per processor per shift. ━━ ENGINEERED LABOUR STANDARDS (ELS) ━━ The foundation of Labour Management. Condition: HU weight < 50 KG → planned time = 7 minutes Condition: HU weight > 50 KG → planned time = 14 minutes Parameters can include: weight · quantity · HU type · distance · activity type · product group. Fully configurable to match the real warehouse. ━━ THE PROCESS ━━ 1 · Create Processor (worker) master data — /SCMB/PRR1 2 · Define ELS conditions and formulas — /SCWM/ELS 3 · Warehouse order created · planned time calculated 4 · Worker executes task · RF timestamps start and end 5 · Planned vs actual compared · efficiency calculated 6 · Supervisor reviews — /SCWM/EPERF ━━ VERIFIED T-CODES ━━ /SCWM/EPERF · Employee Performance Overview /SCWM/ELS · Define Engineered Labour Standards /SCWM/ELS_UPLOAD· Upload ELS via file /SCMB/PRR1 · Create Processor /SCWM/RGRP · Maintain Resource Group /SCWM/SHIFT_WS · Maintain Processor Work Schedule ━━ SPRO PATH ━━ EWM → Labour Management → Activate Labour Management ━━ REAL PROJECT INSIGHT ━━ Labour Management implementations fail for two reasons: 1. ELS is not based on real time-and-motion studies. If planned times are unrealistic — every worker shows 40% efficiency. The data is useless and management loses trust. Always measure actual task times on the floor before configuring ELS. 2. Workers game the system. If they know they are being measured — some log off the RF between tasks. Actual time appears shorter. Efficiency appears higher. The fix: communicate the purpose clearly. LM is not punishment — it is the tool that justifies your headcount. The golden rule: "You cannot improve what you cannot measure." Labour Managem= Day 17 coming — EWM Wave Management. How picking tasks are grouped and released in optimised waves. Fellow EWM consultants — have you implemented Labour Management on a live project? What was the biggest challenge? 👇 #SAP #SAPEWM #S4HANA #SAPConsultant #LabourManagement #WarehouseManagement #LearningInPublic #SupplyChain #Day16

I recently worked with an International staffing firm who faced legacy systems challenges along with operational inefficiencies due to their older disjointed systems which were being supported by manual processes. There were concerns about data management and potential risks with recruiters not consistently using a single database for document storage. This impacted accurate reporting capability; manual reporting took time, and the client lacked a single source of truth. The current technology stack, lacked integration and scalability, hindering visibility and control. This impacted the sharing of information across the various teams and frequently required recruiters to access multiple systems in order to see updates as they relate to their candidates. The administrative burden on the teams meant that simple processes had become quite labour intensive and as such there were few consistencies in approach to a number of processes. I conducted an extensive onsite review of the clients' operations to address their challenges. This included: Process Analysis: Job shadowing and recruiter interviews to facilitate a thorough examination of formal and informal procedures across teams, highlighting areas for improvement and inefficiencies. Data Flow Evaluation: An analysis of how candidates' information is collected by recruiters, sent to compliance, and shared with finance, aligned with business development and marketing workflows. Technology Overview: The evaluation encompassed all technology used by the client, from front office sales through to back office finance systems Recommendations made included transitioning to cloud-based systems to improve accessibility and reliability, particularly for remote access. The recommended solutions aligned with the client's strategic objectives and focused on achieving visibility, control, automation, integration, and increased productivity. Emphasis was placed on implementing an industry specific system to enhance compliance and improve end client's safety. To ensure my client is now in a position to continue their journey without me, the output included: Software Recommendations: Tailored software solutions were proposed to align with the clients' goals and improve operational efficiency and transparency. Implementation Approach: A structured approach was suggested, including a discovery session to select the best tools and collaboration with vendors experienced in their industry specific staffing implementations. Partnership Method: I encouraged a collaborative partnership with chosen vendors that prioritised clear communication and a robust statement of work and suggested next steps. If you are going through your own challenges in your recruitment or staffing business right now I would love to help. You can book a 30 minute complementary call with me using the link in comments. #staffing #recruitment #changemanagement

Started diving into SAP Fieldglass this week, and it's already changing how I think about contingent workforce management. As someone with a background in IT staffing and VMS-based recruiting, seeing the Fieldglass side of things (Job Posting workflows, Contingent vs Services Procurement modules, SOW invoicing) is giving me a much deeper appreciation for how buyers, suppliers, and MSPs coordinate on a single platform. A few things that stood out so far: → Job Postings can follow different workflows (Full Service, Program Office Assisted, Simplified) depending on how much the PMO gets involved → The Contingent module vs Services Procurement module solve very different problems - temporary labor requests vs milestone-based service contracts → Auto-invoicing tied to approved time sheets or completed characteristics is a great example of how much manual work VMS platforms can eliminate Excited to keep building on this and apply it to real program coordination work. #SAPFieldglass #VMS #MSP #ContingentWorkforce #TalentAcquisition

I've been thinking a lot about contingent labor recently. With all of the software required to run modern companies, CL spending and management is becoming more and more of a black box of spend that is difficult to get your hands around. While managing CL is often an HR function, partnering with a great in-house procurement team can generate an astoundingly fast ROI. In today's dynamic business landscape, staying competitive requires strategic workforce management. Leveraging a Vendor Management System (VMS) and/or a Managed Service Provider (MSP) can be a game-changer. There are so many mission-critical problems that can be solved with a proper VMS/MSP deployment. Optimized Talent Acquisition: With a VMS, streamline your recruitment process by centralizing vendor management. Access a diverse pool of talent, ensure compliance, and reduce time-to-hire. Efficient Workforce Management: MSPs take the lead in managing your contingent workforce, providing scalability, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness. Focus on core business functions while experts handle talent acquisition, onboarding, and performance management. Strategic Decision-Making: Harness data-driven insights from a VMS to make informed decisions. Gain visibility into spend, performance metrics, and compliance, empowering your leadership with the information needed to drive strategic workforce planning. Enhanced Compliance and Risk Management: MSPs ensure that your workforce operations comply with regulations, mitigating risks associated with contingent labor. Stay ahead of compliance changes, reduce legal exposure, and foster a secure work environment. Embrace the future of workforce management! If you're ready to unlock efficiency, agility, and strategic advantage, consider integrating a VMS and/or partnering with an MSP. Transform the way you manage talent and position your organization for sustained success. #WorkforceManagement #VMS #MSP #BusinessTransformation #HRInnovation #FutureOfWork #contingentlabor #procurement
