    Portfolio reporting, the hardest part of building a WealthTech startup in India. If your numbers are off, you lose the client's trust instantly. When we started building Ionic Wealth 2 years ago, we assumed we could just plug into an open-source GitHub repo to parse mutual fund reporting logic of RTAs. We couldn't find a single one. Every startup was rebuilding the wheel from scratch, making the exact same mistakes. We started with standard CAMS and KFintech (Karvy) documentation, but the edge cases were a nightmare: The Transfer Problem: When a client transfers assets to your firm, they need to see their XIRR from their original date of purchase, not the transfer date. We learned that you have to use the separate WBR2A report of CAMS and actively ignore Transfer-In (TICOB) cases in the standard WBR2 report to prevent double-counting. The Identity Problem: PAN is not a sacrosanct unique identifier. Because clients have multiple Modes of Holding (Single, Joint, Minor), the PAN can be identical across different folios that belong to different tax entities. If you don't build a back-office mapping system for Mode of Holding (MOH), your reporting will collapse. The Reversal Problem: Units once allocated can also be reversed the next day. Many wealth-tech PMs and engineers may be still losing sleep over this, patching bugs only when users complain. It shouldn't be this hard to build good wealth infrastructure. That’s why today, we are open-sourcing Ionic Wealth’s RTA reverse feed parsing logic. We want to help the industry get portfolio reporting right from Day 1.     In project management, what gets reported gets managed, and what gets visualized gets understood. No matter how strong your team or how detailed your plan is, without clear reporting and effective dashboards, decision-making becomes guesswork instead of strategy.     Before I built systems for property portfolios, I worked in one. I know what it's like when 82 properties across 6 regions are being managed without a proper reporting backbone. Maintenance issues that don't surface until they've compounded. Occupancy dips, nobody caught in time. Regional managers are waiting on someone to compile a report before they can make a single decision. The system I just finished for a property management client solves all of that. I spent years in real estate admin before I moved into automation. The problems I'm solving now are the same ones I lived then ,I just have better tools.
