    The one competency area most medical reps worry about and struggle with is Clinical Knowledge. This is understandable for anyone without a medical background or knowledge. It means learning a new langauge and the breadth of information required can appear staggering. Here's the areas to focus to develop "adequate clinical knowledge": - Anatomy and physiology basics: know the relevant anatomy and physiology related to your products and the specialties that use them -Relevant procedures and techniques: no one expects you to know every procedure at the level your customers do, but you must develop competent knowledge regarding the procedures where your products are used -Clinical terminology: there's no shortcut here. Learn the terms AND be able to pronounce them correctly. Did you know you can Google the correct pronunciation of just about any term and listen to it pronounced? -Treatment protocols: your product and the procedures where it's used are part of an overall treatment protocol. It's essential to understand the overall treatment regimen and where your product fits in and how it's relevant. -Outcome measurements: how are the outcomes for treatments and procedures measured? How does your product impact these outcomes? I have a lot of emerging MSPs coming through Medical Sales Academy and a common concern (actually, source of anxiety is more accurate) is "I don't have a clinical background. How am I going to learn this?" I know this is some heady stuff. You don't need to learn it all at once. But you do need to learn it. Most companys do a great job providing this type of training for their sales teams. For those who've already gone through the learning curve, what has worked for you?     NEW REGULATION UPDATE On 6 March 2025 the Minister of Employment and Labour signed into law the: - Physical Agents Regulations (replacing the Environmental Regulations for Workplaces, 1987) - Noise Exposure Regulations (replacing the Noise-Induced Hearing Loss Regulations, 2003) "Physical agents" means a source of energy which may result in injury or disease after exposure and includes, but is not limited to: - cold stress; - heat stress; - vibration; - radiation; and - illumination. Employers who undertakes activities that expose their employees to the abovementioned physical agents, must: - Develop a comprehensive training programme and refresher training must be provided; - A physical agent-specific risk assessment must be carried out by a competent person, which must be updated every two years. - Where the risk assessment indicates that employees may be exposed to physical agents, exposure monitoring or surveys must be performed every two years. - Develop a system of medical surveillance for employees exposed to physical agents. In addition to the above, each listed physical agent also has a specific section dedicated to it in the Regulations, which outlines how employers must manage the specific risks, what the relevant exposure limits are, etc. No mention is made of when the new Regulations will enter into effect, but both the Physical Agents Regulations and Noise Exposure Regulations indicate that the Regulations they are replacing will be repealed 18-months after the date of promulgation of the new Regulations. This will imply that there is a grace period in place for Employers to align themselves with all the new requirements. #safety #legislation #health #compliance

    SafeWork NSW is reviewing the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2017, which is set to be repealed on 1 September 2025. A new version will be introduced with potential changes that could also be applied nationally. Key proposed changes include: ✅ Clearer licensing and supervision requirements for demolition and traffic control work ✅ Updated references to Australian Standards and Dangerous Goods Codes ✅ More precise rules for food delivery workers using electric scooters ✅ Stronger licensing conditions for major hazard facilities ✅ Minor structural, grammatical, and formatting refinements Some changes could also impact national WHS regulations, particularly around: ✔️ Representation and participation ✔️ Plant and structures ✔️ Hazardous chemicals ✔️ Asbestos management Feedback is open until 12 March 2025. Occupational safety and health engineers must address the following aspects: 1. Physical and Chemical Properties and Risks • Flammability: Flammable gas with an explosive range of 4.3%–45.5% by volume in air. • Toxicity: Extremely hazardous at high concentrations. Maximum permissible exposure limits (MPEL) in the workplace: • Average shift concentration: 10 mg/m³. • Maximum single concentration: 15 mg/m³. • Cumulative effect: Chronic exposure can damage the respiratory and nervous systems. 2. Regulatory Standards Compliance with applicable regulations is essential, including: • GOST 12.1.005-88 – “General Sanitary Requirements for Workplace Air.” • Sanitary and fire safety rules governing work with toxic substances. • Equipment and process operation guidelines. 3. Risk Assessment The safety engineer must: • Analyze potential H₂S release sources. • Evaluate risks at each stage of the technological process. • Identify high-risk zones and establish restricted areas. 4.
